Founded in 1950 by a group of four fathers, Bowling Green Youth Baseball is celebrating its 60th anniversary this summer. The organization currently operates with a 13 member volunteer board, consisting of community members, parents, and coaches. The board has long standing members, with Tim Dunn having served as president of the board since 1982.
The season runs from April 1st to August 10th and provides an athletic outlet for close to 500 Bowling Green and Wood County participants ranging in ages 4 to 18. The games are played at facilities the organization built at Carter Park in 1990 after they outgrew their facility on Mercer Road.
Since the organization is a private entity and not funded by the city, they rely on support from Bowling Green businesses and families. Each of the 40-45 teams are sponsored by local businesses that provide uniforms and equipment and help to keep registration fees down. BG Youth Baseball also hosts regional tournaments throughout the summer, which help to fund the organization and support the maintenance costs of the facility. The organization also has its own umpires association and field maintenance crew as well.
With 60 years of experience, Bowling Green Youth Baseball is proud to provide a great environment for area youth and a unique asset for the entire community. So if you're looking for something to do on a summer night, come out to Carter Park to watch some baseball.
