NOWOH

The NOWOH (Northwest Ohio) Community Art Show originated in 2008 through a BGSU course in Arts Administration. The class project was to help promote the arts in the region, and the students in the course worked with the BGSU Art Galleries to hold the show as an open community showcase for artists in the surrounding area. In 2009 the BGSU Art Galleries took on the show as an annual event, hosting the show in the large Dorothy Uber Bryan Art Gallery in the Fine Arts building on campus.

The show is open to residents 16 years and older in 12 surrounding northwest Ohio counties. All artists are welcome to submit up to three pieces of work, the only requirement being that the entries are recent or current work. Accepted media includes ceramics, design, drawing, fibers, glass, jewelry, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. There are some size regulations for submissions, and currently time-based work is not presented in the show.

Awards are given in the a number of categories, including: Best of Show, 1st and 2nd place 2-D, 1st and 2nd place 3-D, Best Young Artist, People's Choice Award and Honorable Mentions.

A group of volunteers organized by the BGSU Art Galleries coordinates all the efforts that make the show possible, and community organizations and area businesses support the show through Sponsorships. See more information at the show's website: www.nowohartshow.org.
