Video Spectrum & Smoovies:
Fruit and Film in BG

Video Spectrum has been a part of the Bowling Green Community since it opened 1981, offering fewer than seventy movies for rent. It now has over seventeen thousand on its shelves, and in addition to providing something for almost any taste, it has also become an important resource for theater and film majors at Bowling Green State University who rely on its extensive library and affordable prices.

Bill WIlkins, one of the store's co-owners explains how it has happened, "We've added to our library over all these years, and have not done what a lot of the other stores have done which is if a title sits around for a while they would get rid of it. We chose to keep those and categorize them in our sections." Sue Wilkins, also a co-owner, agrees, "In the early stages of Video Spectrum I bought every movie that came across my desk, and we never got rid of anything. It's a movie buff's paradise, if you love movies you need to come into Video Spectrum."

Throughout the store movies are organized in categories such as director, actor, time period, and genre, some as specific as Vietnam films. Also to be found are foreign films, cult classics and independent films. The store also carries an extensive VHS selection that includes many films that have not been transferred to DVD. VCR's are available for rental for those who no longer own one.
