While walking through historic downtown Bowling Green,
the colorful display of clothing behind the stores
glass window excites the eye encouraging any woman
to stop in and explore fashion through a new lens.
The Boutique has a cozy, intimate feel that whisks
you away to another world. Greeted by an oversized
couch, beautiful clothing, and a smile, it’s
hard not to turn a shopping experience into your own
private escape.
Diversity Boutique began nearly five years ago by
Bowling Green State University graduate student, Erin
Norman, merely as an idea to bring her masters thesis
to life.
Now the Boutique has become more than just an idea
but a reality when it opened in August 2003, and has
successfully grown into a fashion-forward business.
Located on the corner of N. Main and Wooster Streets,
this boutique started with a small amount of inventory
and now provides a diverse sense of style influenced
by major fashion centers. With an inventory ranging
from logo tees to after-five pieces, Diversity Boutique
carries up-to-the-minute styles fit for any age, figure,
or size.
The pieces featured in the Boutique go through an
exceptional process to guarantee an exclusive peek
at the trendiest fashions. Store owner Erin Norman
makes a trip to Los Angeles once a month to visit cutting
edge manufacturers. She hand picks the pieces for her
store with three of each item in every size to ensure
the customer gets an item that is original. |

Besides the careful process of choosing
the best trends, Diversity Boutique stays a season
ahead of most stores in the Bowling Green area by keeping
their shoppers ahead of the curve with unforgettable
detail in each piece. Whether it’s something as small as earrings
or a cocktail dress, the designs come from an international
influence instead of regional trends. It isn’t
a surprise to walk in the boutique and see Asian and
Indian influenced styles in Kimono blouses and elaborately
designed handbags and accessories. The earrings are
handmade by one of Diversity Boutique’s managers,
Ms. Erin Swartz. The distinctive detail on the earrings
is just another sign of that intimate “just-for-me” shopping
experience from the minutest detail to the major pieces.
Every
woman wants that perfect pair of jeans to compliment
her shape and there are two things to look for pocket
placement, and fit. In the Boutique, Miss Me jeans
are a top seller because they offer a variety of pocket
placement and styles like flare, straight leg, and
boot cut jeans with seams in strategic places to fit
any body type.
According
to fashion major and Diversity Boutique manager Erin
Kirk, it is best to go with comfort, and most women
agree. The fashion in the boutique does take comfort
into consideration when the clothing is selected and
it shows through the soft fabrics seen in their selection.
The blouses say trendy but caress and flow against
the skin, and quite often comfort and fit are often
forgotten in fashion.
